29 Oct – Thousands showed up at Cathay Cineplexes Damansara's premiere of "Michael Jackson's This Is It" as Malaysian impersonator Reizo Zen wowed the crowd with a five-minute dance performance dedicated to the dead star's legacy.
Backed by several dancers, the impersonator set the mood for the night with some dazzling moves amidst a remix of popular Michael Jackson numbers. Fans were heard shouting "We miss you, Michael!" and "I love you, Michael" before the show started at 9.30pm. The concert movie, culled from more than 100 hours of reheasal footage, opened simultaneously in many territories worldwide, after Sony Pictures bought the video rights off concert organisers AEG upon the pop king's shock demise earlier in June this year. Playing under a special two-week engagement, advance sales for the movie has garnered plenty of media attention and established considerable box office expectations. Many promotional items were on sale to commemorate the premiere, including caps, shirts and books. Speculation among industry analysts online suggest that the two-week engagement may be extended if demand is high enough.
