Tom Cruise takes on "Yukikaze"

Tom Cruise sticks to the science fiction genre for his next film.

19 Apr – Tom Cruise picks up another science fiction role after the successful box office opening of "Oblivion" internationally with "Yukikaze", a film based on a series of Japanese novels by Chohel Kamayashi.

The plot for "Yukikaze" focuses on the early 21st century, 30 years after an alien force called JAM invaded earth via dimensional portholes in Antarctica. In order to counter the alien attack, the humans form a combat force to protect earth and take the battle to the alien's home planet.

Tom Cruise plays Jack Harper, a drone repairman in "Oblivion".

The film has yet to have a writer or director attached. It will be produced by Erwin Stoff and Tom Lassally, who developed and produced "We Mortals Are", another science fiction caper that Cruise is involved in.

"We Mortals Are" is helmed by Doug Liman and will see the 50-year-old actor starring alongside Emily Blunt. The film is based on the Japanese graphic novel titled "All You Need Is Kill".

"Oblivion" is currently playing in cinemas nationwide and in Singapore.
